Preschool learners love the balloons and in addition as a toy, they are very common at parties and recreational activities, however; most of them were surprised by the outbreak of the balloons suddenly exploding, without knowing: Why?
Before starting the activity it is relevant to self-care tips and accident prevention measures and be alert.
The balloons are "latex" plastic and elastic material, "not swallow, is not tested and not chewed." It is suggested prior to inflate balloons activities in certain cases. Only canevá needle plastic round tip is required (to puncture the balloons). The teacher will supervise each student to puncture his balloon.
Teacher's support in cases of children with special needs is essential
The teacher organizes the class as determined by the element of surprise, that is; in a giant bag prepare "strategically" inflated with plastic chips colored balloons inside them (example: blue and/or green red and/or yellow and/or blue). The balloons do not necessarily correspond to the color of the plastic chip because the "surprise" element will be lost.
Exemplify the planned mathematical patterns (AB, ABC, AAB, ABB, ABCD) depending on the curricular objectives.
We suggest considering more plastic chips to complement the patterns if necessary. The teacher can introduce other balloons "surprises" as they are; letters, illustrations or geometric figures, etc., to give variety to the game and participate.
For all activities
- The teacher should estimate the required amount of "balloons" considering
- Material resources.
- Procedure (organization of training sequence).
Strategies teamwork or collaborative that will be used in the classroom before, during and after starting the sequence
In the starting activity of "Explosive Surprises!" each colored plastic chip will determine the collaborative participation of the students.
In questioning activities. The teacher can prepare sticks with the name of each student to randomly take one and a partner can participate consecutively.
Classroom Organization
In starting activity it would suggest the teacher to organize the group seated in half circle so they can be watching as his fellow punctured balloons ample space to display the drop "plastic chip and/or surprise card".
In the project development activity it is recommended hovercraft organize the group around a large table.
In the closing activity it is advisable to display outside the classroom
Identification of challenging activities (especially those that students may find it difficult to make time-consuming or preparation or execution).
Inflating balloons for some preschoolers is a challenge and it can consume more time than stipulated depending on individual skills and / or abilities in special students.
Learning environment
It is suggested to create a learning environment STEM ideas to motivate and encourage mathematical, technological, scientific talks, and engineering where students participate naturally. In this environment; students can explain and expand the ideas of STEM, justify their reasoning with critical thinking. Also it motivates their curiosity about nature, discuss and understand the explanations of others and reflect on their own thinking. They can improve their learning expectations with well-planned practices.
Supplemental:
Calculate the estimated time to perform things. This teaching unit is planned to take place in five sessions with an approximate time of one hour per session for a group of fifteen students. Regarding the preparation of materials home activity bag balloons depend on curriculum objectives and/or the number of students. For the project; gluing plastic caps with valve on the center of the CD is about one minute each one. For the artistic design of the hovercraft about 15 minutes.
Supporting every step in each group or for each student on the road, reviewing and advising that the use of materials is done correctly.
It is suggested to contemplate security measures described in each activity and hygiene and in development activity to puncture the balloons and "waste or waste materials latex" should be collected and leave the area clean promptly even having been stipulated and/or recalled the security measures. The use and collection of cutting tools (scissors, cutters and silicone gun, and the remaining balloons "uninflated" and colorful tiles or card-related) should be out of reach of students.
How a latex balloon is inflated? The right way is when the ball is a ball with a bulge in the nozzle (is where air enters and tied) so that it is round.
Is the wrong way when inflated and the balloon on pear shaped socket, thus besides being unsightly, the latex stretched to its maximum and leads which can burst at the slightest roughness or static charge.
